It’s day two of 13 Days of Glamberween and I’m offering up my first movie review for the haunting holiday. Last Glamberween celebration I told you why you should watch such horror films like “Saw,” “Play Misty For Me,” and “Rosemary’s Baby” and this time I have a new list of some of my fav horror films or ones that really stuck out to me that you should check out, or revisit if you already saw them. My first Glamberween 2015 movie review is a movie I’m obsessed with, the 1984 film “Silent Night, Deadly Night.”
What’s It About
Written by Paul Caimi and Michael Hickey under the direction of Charles E. Sellier Jr., “Silent Night, Deadly Night” tells the story of Billy (Played by Jonathan Best at age 5, Danny Wagner at age 8, and Robert Brian Wilson at 18) a young boy that witnesses the brutal murder of his parents by a man dressed as Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. Later, Billy and his younger brother are placed in an orphanage run by a strict nun named Mother Superior (Lilyan Chauvin) who forces Billy to deal with his past and his issues with Santa Claus, not a great idea.
Each year, Billy becomes “naughty,” a theme in the film, and tries not to be punished. He was told as a child that Santa punishes people who are naughty. But Billy can’t fight the inevitable and soon becomes the very thing that killed his parents.
Why You Should Watch It
Halloween horror and holiday cheer are combined in this delicious dark film that was reported to be so grim that people actually boycotted this film. Now doesn’t that make you want to see what the hype is about. This story spans 18 years in a short time and gives you just enough back story to want to know what’s going to happen to Billy and if he will ever get over his fear, or anger if you will, towards Santa. And get this, if you wanted to know what happened to Billy’s brother after all of this, there are two follow-up films, that I haven’t seen yet, but I’m curious to see how this story really ends. “Silent Night, Deadly Night” is such a cheesy ’80’s horror flick, but those were the best ones.
Why It Made My List
If you love a good black comedy then this is the horror film for you. It could just be me and that I find the humor in any film if I watch it enough, but this film is just such an underrated classic for me. For the soundtrack alone, it has a few classic holiday carols but “The Warm Side Of The Door” and “Sweet Little Baby” will get stuck in you head and make it to your iPod.
