When Marlon Wayans announced that he planned on spoofing E.L James’ erotic novel turned film “Fifty Shades of Grey” the feedback received was nothing short of excitement for haters and lovers of the movie to see how Wayans would take on the global, pop culture phenomenon that made Christian Grey a household name.
In “Fifty Shades of Black,” Wayans will play the mysterious, handsome billionaire but he told Entertainment Weekly that he doesn’t want the public to think of the film solely as a parody. “Like “Fifty Shades of Grey” if Christian Grey was black and he was rich, but we don’t know exactly how he got his money, he’s a little shady, and he’s a really bad lover.”
Wayans who recently spoofed all the latest paranormal movies in “A Haunted House” and “A Haunted House 2” adds, “I don’t look at these movies like spoofs, as much as comedic remixes. I just approach it as its own original movie, with its own plot and its own characters, and just take them through a similar journey. I just find the jokes where the dramas didn’t. It’s kind of like what Kanye [West] does to old soul music; I just remix it for this generation, for people that want to see comedies.”
On Instagram, Wayans has been taking fans eagerly waiting for the film behind the scenes with photos of the set and teasing steamy scenes with Kali Hawk (“Bridemaids,” “Couples Retreat”) who has been enlisted to play leading lady aka the Anastasia Steele. Wayans captioned the below photo of himself with Hawk, “We on this dang set#50shadesofblack first shot up. Bout to spank this naughty b*tch @kalihawk.”
Mike Epps, Jane Seymour, Affion Crockett and Fred Willard will also be in the “Fifty Shades of Black” cast. The film will be in theaters January 29, 2016.
