If you’ve been keeping up with Glambergirlblog’s coverage of Spike’s mini series event TUT then you know just how grand and epic this series will be. A major component of that is the costumes.
In a new behind the scenes peek at the series, costume designer Carlo Poggioli talks about what went into creating authentic Egyptian garb for everyone as big as King Tut (Avan Jogia) to as small as the extra hundreds of miles from the camera.
“This is a lot of work to put on. They come in the morning and they dress you and it’s kind of how I imagine it would be to be a Pharaoh, and it’s kind of how it would be for Tutankhamun in the morning I would imagine,” Jogia said at the start of the clip.
“She starts from a piece of fabric like that. And the effect of this pleated thing is really unique. You can not find this kind of fabric around. You can not go and buy pleated linen anyplace,” Poggioli said about pleating the clothing for the cast.
“So we are manufacturing everything. We are manufactoring all the clothes, and we are dying and again every single piece. All the embroidery, the jewels and the armor, everything is made by hand.” Poggioli continued to speak on manufacturing the costumes, as well as the cast, writer, and director chiming in.
In another clip, Iddo Goldberg who plays Lagus, the “committed soldier, man of the people and trusted servant of King Tut,” talks about his loyalty to the king and the course of action he goes on as a player in the way Egypt is ran.
The epic three night mini-series event of TUT premieres Sunday, July 19th on Spike and stars Sir Ben Kingsley, Avan Jogia, Sibylla Deen, Alexander Siddig, Kylie Bunbury, Peter Gadiot, and Nonso Anozie.
