As we get closer to the premiere date of Spike mini-series Tut starring Sir Ben Kingsley and Avan Jogia, sneak peeks of the limited series have been released to show us just how epic it will be.
In the newly released clips of Tut, the size and scale is mentioned quite often from the cast, director, and writer. Outside of Tut being a battle of power for King Tutankhamun (Jogia), there are universal themes that anyone could relate to and find intriguing in the mini series packed with action, romance, and more.
“People vying for power when they don’t have it and people trying to find how to use power when they do have it is entirely contemporary,” director and executive producer David Von Ancken said in one clip.
Michael Vickerman, writer and executive producer, said, “There are all these other characters around Tut who are all vying for power. He has the power, how is he going to use it.”
Jogia speaks about playing the role of King Tut in another clip saying, “Getting to play Pharaoh Tutankhamun is incredible. The Egyptian royalty was like being a god.” The 23-year-old continued, “At first Tut’s ambition is to reclaim what is rightfully his and then he gets hit with the realities of actually having the power and running a state.”
The three-day mini series event of Tut premieres Sunday, July 19 on Spike.
Tut “explores the drama of power, political back-stabbing, war and murder and chronicles King Tut’s rise to glory, his efforts to rule a chaotic empire and the enigma surrounding his death.”
