Ariana Grande took to Twitter on Sunday to express her feelings on feminism, double standards, the endless rumors about who she’s dating, and more.
Lovingly known as the clap back queen to her fans, Grande didn’t hold anything back as she went on to blast criticism of her dating life, her relationship with her team and misogyny. “Being empowered… is not the same as being a “bitch.” HAVING SOMETHING TO SAY… is not the same as HAVING A BAD ATTITUDE,” the 21-year-old singer began her extensive post. I don’t really want to call it a rant because I see no lies, she’s simply speaking what she believes to be the truth.
The “One Last Time” artist continues, “What I meant when I said what I said about being Sean’s ex is that I am tired of living in a world where women are mostly referred to as a man’s past, present or future PROPERTY/POSSESSION. I…do not..belong..to anyone.but myself.and neither do you.”
Can I take a break and say how I love the sass. As a sassy girl myself, I can appreciate when you let loose on what you really think about something after biting your tongue for so long.
Throughout the post, Grande speaks about writing new music and having the best time on tour. She speaks on coming from a “long bloodline of female activists” and quotes Gloria Steinem’s 1969 article titled “After Black Power, Women’s Liberation.”
Towards the end, Grande speaks on her Honeymoon Diaries, which clearly must have gotten some backlash. On YouTube, the Scream Queens actress posts behind the scenes videos from her tour to give fans a more intimate and fun look into her life. “My honeymooon diaries are my way of sharing absolutely as much as I can with my fans. that is something i have done since day one and never plan on changing. it is a safe environment for me to be myself and share funny, special, personal things with my fans ans to laugh about sill things i’ve done/things i’m going through,” she said.
Adding, “I don’t plan on monitoring or changing that because there are more eyes on me now than there were before. I love y’all with all my heart…you’ve accepted and celebrated me not only as an artist but as a person since day one and nothing will change that or change me.”
Ariana Grande ends the “rant” with a quote from Gloria Steinem that reads, “any woman who chooses to behave like a full human being should be warned that the armies of the status quo will treat her as something of a dirty joke…She will need her sisterhood.”
