“No Homo” but be prepared to remove your “Dick in A Box” because “Everything Is Awesome!!!” now that The Lonely Island movie is in production. FYI those are all Lonely Island songs.
Jorma Taccone, Akiva Schaffer and Andy Samberg make up The Lonely Island comedy/music trio, who already have three albums under their belt, countless Saturday Night Live Digital Shorts, and now a film that has begun filming produced by Judd Apatow.
So what would a movie starring The Lonely Island be about? First we know it would be funny and second it would contain original music, and that’s exactly what it’s about. The untitled project will poke fun at those music documentaries (i.e Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never,” Katy Perry’s “Part of Me,” and One Direction’s “This Is Us). It will focus on a rapper, played by Samberg, who is having a decline in success when his latest album doesn’t do that well. He enlists his former group members, Taccone and Schaffer, to partake in a reunion concert in an attempt to regain a high level of fame.
Sarah Silverman recently joined the film to play Samberg’s “sharp and sarcastic publicist who has to suffer many indignities.”
On Instagram, The Lonely Island wanted to send a message that they were in production for the film. A photo of a possible movie poster read “We’re shooting the shit out of this movie” with the caption “Now Filming!!! #TLImovie.”
