Legendary Blues musician B.B. King has dead at 89 peacefully in Las Vegas on Thursday.
The Mississippi native, real name Riley B. King, was known as “the king of Blues” for his sultry, melancholy music and playing his infamous guitar, lovingly called Lucille. On King’s official website, a post called “The Thrill Is Gone,” also one of King’s greatest hits, read “Mr. King passed peacefully in his sleep at 9:40 pm Pacific time May 14 2015.”
Two weeks prior to King’s death, his daughter Patty discovered serious health issues with her dad and he was briefly hospitalized. He suffered a minor heart attack during that hospital stay.
B.B. King’s extensive career in music landed him as an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with millions of records sold. He received 15 Grammy awards, was a recipient of a Kennedy Center Honor and the President Medal of Freedom, and had a New York City restaurant lounge named after him.
