Raven-Symone sure has made a splash on ABC’s The View since she started guest hosting on the always controversial series, but that’s kind of the point right, to have outspoken views. Symone’s latest comments proved just that.
During the topic of a recent poll where Americans were asked who they wanted to replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill, Raven-Symone’s comments stood out more than the actual poll. The results of the poll boiled down to four finalists: African-American Abolitionist Harriett Tubman, former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt, Civil Rights leader Rosa Parks, and former Cherokee Nation chief Wilma Mankiller; Tubman lead the poll as to who Americans wanted on the alleged new $20 bill. Raven-Symone did not agree with America.
“No offense to everyone that’s going to be mad at me for saying this… I don’t like that idea. I think we need to move a little bit more forward. Yes, I understand, let me just preface that I understand the history, I get it, trust me, I was taught, I’m in that culture,” Symone said expressing her feelings on the subject.
She added Rosa Parks would be her choice as the face of the new $20 bill because she’s “closer to the progression that we’re doing now,” adding, “You have to understand history so you don’t repeat it, but that doesn’t really happen in our world because we still repeat history of hating other cultures over and over again. I would choose a different one, no offense.” None taken, to each its own.
Watch Raven-Symone explain why she doesn’t think Harriet Tubman should be on the $20 bill below at the 9:18 mark and share your thoughts in the comments.
