Actress Ellen Albertini Dow Dies At 101 RIP to the lady who played the sweetest, and most hilarious, granny in every movie

Actress Ellen Albertini Dow died on Monday, May 4 at the age of 101; her longtime agent Juliet Green confirmed to Deadline.

The Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania native studied dance and piano starting at the age of five. She received a B.A. and M.A. in theater from Cornell University, moved to New York, and studied and worked with the legendary talent like: Hanya Holm, Martha Graham,Michael Shurtleff, Uta Hagen, Marcel Marceau, and Jacques Lecoq in Paris. Dow, who got her first gig in 1985 when she was 71, continued a very extensive acting career that expanded several decades.

And she sure had a thing for weddings. Her rise to fame started as the “rapping granny” in the 1998 film “The Wedding Singer” with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Years down the line she played a grumpy granny in the 2005 comedy film “Wedding Crashers” starring Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn. In between those films, before, and after she acted in popular television programs and in films like: New Girl, Shameless, The Twilight Zone,  Family Guy, “Not Another Teen Movie” and “Sister Act.”
