Miley Cyrus is adding philanthropist to her list of credentials with a newly launched foundation called Happy Hippie.
Happy Hippie is a foundation that brings awareness to and asks “young people to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBT youth and other vulnerable populations.” As part of the kick off, Cyrus introduced “Happy Hippie Presents: Backyard Sessions,” a series of performances to raise funds for her organization.
In the first installment, the “Wrecking Ball” singer performed a rendition of “Different” with legendary rocker Joan Jett. Against Me! singer Laura Jane Grace and Melanie Safka will appear in the music sessions as well.
Ariana Grande, who also will join Miley in a “Backyard” performance, sent well wished to her pal on the launch of her foundation. On Instagram she shared a photo of the two of them snuggled in onesies with the caption, “congrats to my friend @mileycyrus on the launch of@happyhippiefdn!!! you are an [angel emoji] on earth. i can’t thank you enough for doing something so important and for having me be part of something so special.”
The 21-year-old “One Last Time” singer continued, “Thank you for using your voice in such an incredibly positive and healthy way. here’s to helping so many sweet babes in need. for more information follow@happyhippiefdn… if you believe in fighting injustice / limiting labeling, assumptions, judgement, challenging stereotypes, encouraging our fellow human beings to feel safe in their skin, and helping homeless youth. this work of yours is so incredibly important!!!! i love, appreciate and celebrate you.”
