Bruce Jenner Reveals All To Diane Sawyer In Exclusive Interview Bruce Jenner - "I'm a Woman"

The anticipated interview with Bruce Jenner and Diane Sawyer has been the topic of discussion even before there were any promos or real confirmation for the sit down. Kim Karadshian West, step daughter to the former Olympian athlete, was asked awhile back on a talk show appearance what was going on with Bruce, and she candidly answered that the time would come where Bruce would explain everything in his own way, Friday night was that time.

During a two-hour ABC News 20/20 sit down with Jenner and Sawyer, the 65-year-old boldly revealed that he has “the soul of a female,” and that his brain “is much more female than it is male” and that he is making the transition to become a woman. Bruce Jenner talked openly about his childhood and knowing for a long time that this was the step he wanted to take with his life. He also talked about how he told each of his children.

Brandon, Brody, Casey and Burt Jenner appeared on the ABC exclusive interview and shared their feelings about their father transitioning into a transgender woman. Bruce later revealed Brandon was the first Jenner child he told, with Kim being the first Kardashian who knew the truth about Bruce. He also said Kim has been “by far the most supportive.”

Over the years, Jenner has had cosmetic facial surgeries and took the female hormone estrogen for five years in the late 1980s.  He’s currently on hormones and has been for the past year and a half. Although Jenner has his female name all picked out he has no current plans with moving forward with an operation to remove his male parts telling Sawyer, “As of now, I have all the male parts and all that kind of stuff, so in a lot of ways we’re different, okay? But we still identify as female. And that’s very hard for Bruce Jenner to say. Because why? I don’t want to disappoint people.”

Following the interview, and very much during, social media had plenty to say about what had quickly became a trending topic on Twitter. Naturally there were many jokes and negative comments, but the amount of support and positive messages sent to Bruce Jenner and his loved ones was overwhelmingly touching.

Bruce Jenner’s family including his step children: Kourtney Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, and Kim Kardashian West, along with Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner, daughters with his ex-wife Kris Jenner, and a slew of celebrities from a number of entertainment fields shared their support for Jenner’s “brave” choice to come forward and to announce to the world his true self. Watching the interview, I found myself getting teary-eyed as Bruce explained the life he was living, basically since a child, trying to suppress who he was out of fear. Having suicidal thoughts and really living a lie for such a long time. Not many transgender people have the type of platform or support Jenner has and it’s good to see him be embraced, for the most part, and willing to evoke change with his new status in society.

Kudos to you Bruce Jenner! It takes a strong and brave individual to live their truth. I have a new-found respect for Jenner after this interview.
