We are less than a week away from a new year so it’s that time where Glambergirlblog.com highlights the top stories in pop culture for the year.
I did an extensive look through the past year of blog posts GGB wrote about and complied a list of top 10 talked about stories and/or group of moments that happened in pop culture during the year 2014! So without further adieu, in no particular order, let’s get into Glambergirlblog’s 2014 Year in Review.
1. Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West Vogue’d Wedding: 2014 has been very good to Kim K and Kanye West. Not only did the two officially become husband and wife, their wedding photo became the top liked photo on Instagram, but they also landed their first Vogue cover that also became a top seller. Oh and the West’s daughter North got cuter and cuter everyday, so congrats on that guys.
2. “Fifty Shades of Grey” Releases Promo Content: The anticipated 2015 film “Fifty Shades of Grey” released some steamy content this year that got us Christian Grey fans excited to see the erotic novel come to life on the big screen. I admit I wasn’t that excited about the casting choices for Mr. Grey and Anastasia Steele (Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson) nor did the first teaser for the film thrill me, but as months went on and better visuals were revealed along with Beyoncé being added to film’s soundtrack, I became enthused for this film. I’m sure this will be another 2015 moment.
3. Beyoncé and Jay Z are ‘On The Run’ and On Tour: Beyoncé and Jay Z took their love and music national and international on their first joint and anticipated tour entitled ‘On The Run.’ Bey and Jay kept busy dodging divorce rumors and the “elevator” incident by reminding people why they are the king and queen of the music industry when they performed during their sold out shows. The music couple even grossed more income from the tour when a special HBO presentation of the concert showed on a marathon back in September. I wonder how The Carters plan to dominate 2015.
4. James Franco’s Public Social Media Pick Up: Let me start by saying I love James Franco, he can come off a little pervy and creepy but I still love him so when news of Franco trying to hook up with a 17-year-old girl back in April dominated social media, I can say I wasn’t that surprised. There was a leaked convo of James Franco trying to meet up with a fan he met and things got awkward. Many speculated that the awkward situation was an elaborate way to promote his “Palo Alto” film where he plays a guy who has a relationship with an under age teen. I guess we’ll never know.
5. John Travolta Introduces Us To Adele Dazim: This is one of those things we can’t let go. During the 2014 Oscars in March, John Travolta had the most epic name screw up to date that sparked a never-ending joke. While announcing Idina Menzel’s performance of “Let It Go” from the award-winning film “Frozen,” Travolta completely butchered her name, matter of fact, he basically just gave her a new one when he announced “Adele Dazim” to the stage. The name blunder even created an app where you could “Travoltize” your name and create a brand new one. Got to love social media.
6. Rihanna Returns To Instagram: It was a pretty big deal to see Rihanna come back to Instagram in November. The 26-year-old’s account got deactivated from her constant use of posting “inappropriate” photos that went against the rules of the social media website. But RiRi and Instagram kissed and made up and her account was back in rotation unexpectedly after a 6 month hiatus. Rihanna even posted a funny Instagram message marking her return to IG.
7. Mariah Carey Ruins Christmas: This year has not been a positive year for MC, in the eyes of the media that is. On top of being compared to mini Mariah aka Ariana Grande, Carey has been going through a separation from husband Nick Cannon and her latest performances have been off. In New York early this month, Mariah Carey performed “All I Want For Christmas Is You” at the tree lighting ceremony in Rockefeller Center. The 44-year-old’s isolated vocals from that performance went viral and the jokes started pouring in on how bad the song sounded. You have to admit, it’s the not Mimi we heard back in day
8. Celebrities Who Gave Birth: The baby boom of 2014 was an awesome and an unexpected one. Among the ladies and gentlemen that welcomed new additions to their families were: Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, Zoe Saldana, Lil Kim, Kelly Rowland, Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick, Hayden Panettiere, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes, Snooki, Kerry Washington and Nnamdi Asomugha, JWoww and Roger Matthews, Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis, and Evelyn Lozada. Next year we’ll be on the look out for bundles of joy from Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, Evan Ross and Ashlee Simpson Ross, and Haylie Duff.
9. Celebrity Kisses and Disses: There was a thin line between love and hate this year for celebrity couples. While some were getting ready to exchange “I do’s,” others were filing for divorce and breaking up. The celebs that got married were: Snooki, Solange Knowles, Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade, Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross, Jenny McCarthy and Donnie Wahlberg, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Naya Rivera, Eve, and Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. Those ladies and gents who went back on the market were: Kris Jenner and Bruce Jenner, Ciara and Future, Tyler Posey, Amber Rose and Wiz Khalifa, Jason Derulo and Jordin Sparks, Chris Brown and Karrueche Tran, maybe, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, Robin Thicke and Paula Patton. And then there were those who got into new relationships or got engaged like: Ariana Grande and Big Sean, Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed, Robert Pattinson and FKA Twigs, Bow Wow and Erica Mena, Kevin Hart, Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello, Haylie Duff, and Evan Peters and Emma Roberts.
10. The Celebrities We Lost In 2014: From January to December, we lost some really amazing people in 2014. Some we lost to natural causes and others tragically, either way they are missed and prayers are with their loved ones. RIP – Diem Brown, Joan Rivers, Rik Mayall, Robin Williams, James Avery, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Simone Battle, Stephanie Moseley, Lauren Bacall, L’Wren Scott, Richard, Attenborough, Jan Hooks, Sid Caesar, Shirley Temple, JayAre, Maya Angelou, Ann B. Davis, Ruby Dee, Casey Kasem, Meshach Taylor, James Garner, and John Henson.
