Avid readers of Glambergirlblog.com and our social media followers know we are HUGE fans of the FX American Horror Story series, so you can only imagine the excitement when GGB landed an exclusive interview with one of the cast members from the current season.
Erika Ervin plays Amazon Eve on American Horror Story: Freak Show and is an up and coming talent in Hollywood. The 6′ 8″ actress/writer/director/model and Turlock, California native transitioned from male to female in 2004 but wants to first and foremost be known for her talent right now.
I spoke with Erika Ervin on an early Saturday afternoon and we discussed everything from her audition, her first day on set, working with her cast mates and more! Check out some excerpts from the interview.
Erika Ervin On Working With American Horror Story Season Veterans:
“Well the first thing that happens when you go on set is your jaw drops, like ‘oh my god it’s Jessica Lange, oh my god that’s Evan Peters, that’s Angela Bassett, that’s Kathy Bates’…..I remember when Michael came into town, the star struck doesn’t go away I think unless your there but after while you get to know people, that goes away, you’re really excited to be working with some of the most talented people in this business. That’s how you feel very, privileged, definitely privileged and it’s something that I’m very humbled by. The work that it takes to do this is having…long ago I gave up on this, I thought this would never happen.”
Erika Ervin On Friendship and Working With Jyoti Amge (Ma Petite):
“We already have a natural friendship. We met in 2011 in Milan, Italy at the Guinness Book World Record show and we became instant friends. And we worked in Japan, literally a month before I got cast in the show. And her and I went to Japan for a week and got to hang out and we became really close, now we’re even closer being on this show because we see each other all the time. This is one of those rare occasions she’s also very special to me, I think it had to do something with opposites attract, she has a whole different perspective on the world. You’re looking at it at such a tiny, vulnerable place but she’s also a little bundle of giggles, she can be a little devil sometimes too, she likes to pull pranks.”
Erika Ervin On Choosing To Have A Platform In The LGBT Community:
“Well I’ve been asked to be a spokesperson, it’s been intimated you know this new spokesperson on some of the blogs. Let me to decide when to do that. I want to focus on my work right now, art. I’ve done some great advocacy work in the past health insurance for transgender people in California and I’ve participated in a lot of lobbying for healthcare reform in California for transgender people, so I’ve done my little duties here and there, I need to try to be selfish right now. I don’t want to get on that spokesperson, advocate bandwagon yet. You know, I’m just a woman being an actress in a show.”
