Coming Soon: ‘The Best Man Wedding’ Green-lit For 2016 Release

When writer-director Malcolm D. Lee loves a plot line we sure will know it. There’s another installment to “The Best Man” series in the works.

“The Best Man” was the initial film that started the series in 1999. The all black cast followed a group of friends as they prepared for a friend’s wedding and the release of another friend’s book that spilled secrets about the married couple to be.

In 2013, “The Best Man Holiday” was released with the original cast [Taye Diggs, Terrence Howard, Harold Perrineau, Morris Chestnut, Monica Calhoun, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, Melissa De Sousa and Regina Hall] and doubled in sales from the first. This plot followed the group rebuilding friendships and forgiveness during the holiday season.

For the third installment Sean Daniel will be producing the film with an unknown plot thus far. We do however know that the title is “The Best Man Wedding” and has to do with Quentin, Terrence Howard’s character, getting married and the original cast is on board.

Now I admit, I was excited for “The Best Man Holiday.” I wanted to see how the first story picked back up, especially over a decade later, but another film, I don’t know. I liked how films of the 1990’s were just that. It introduced a plot line, characters to fall in love with, or hate, and let the audience imagine what would happen next after the film was over, if they chose to. Nowadays, it’s all about a sequel, prequel and spin-off and many of these movies don’t need one. I don’t know how I’m going to feel about a follow-up ‘Best Man’ movie.

“The Best Man Wedding” is slated to be in theaters April 15, 2016.
