Zendaya is out and Alexandra Shipp is in! To play Aaliyah in the Lifetime biopic that is.
The 23-year-old Ray Donovan actress has been announced to play the late “One In A Million” singer in the TV movie “Aaliyah: Princess of R&B” on Friday afternoon.
The news comes a month after Zendaya dropped out of the project.
Thanks to Twitter, television host Wendy Williams, who just signed on as an executive producer, broke the news of her new role and the new “baby girl.” She tweeted, “I’m excited to exec produce the Aaliyah @lifetimetv movie w/ @DebraMChase. Prod starts later this month and @AlexShipppp will play Aaliyah.”
The Aaliyah Lifetime movie will showcase the short life and stellar career of the starlet leading up to her tragic 2001 death in a plane crash. The movie is set to premiere this Fall.
