“Shake It Up” actress Zendaya has landed a very coveted role that may jump start her acting career beyond being a Disney star.
The “Replay” singer will star as the late R&B singer Aaliyah in a Lifetime film set to air this fall, titled “Aaliyah: Princess of R&B,” based off the best-selling biography Aaliyah: More Than a Woman.
Zendaya took to Twitter to share her feelings on being selected for the role. She tweeted, “She’s been an inspiration and influence in my whole career, her talent still shines brighter then ever, all I wanna do is honor her.”
The 17-year-old continued, “Show how much she accomplished in only 22 years….she’s beautiful inside and there will never be another Aaliyah, I just hope to share her beautiful story, and make her proud up in heaven #babygirl #forever #OneInAMillion.”
Aaliyah, who’s greatest hit “One in A Million” remains one of my favorite songs, died at the young age of 22 in a plane crash back in 2001.
CONGRATS Zendaya on this amazing role. I hope you do well.
I’m actually excited to see this film with Zendaya attached to it but what do you think? Is Zendaya a good fit being cast as Aaliyah?
