RIP: Iconic Actress Ruby Dee Dies at 91

Iconic actress and activist Ruby Dee has passed away.

Dee’s stellar acting career spans over seven decades with many awards and respect in her industry. Ruby Dee appeared in a number of films and stage plays like “A Raisin in the Sun”, “American Gangster”, “Do The Right Thing” and “Jungle Fever.”

According to a rep for the actress, Michael Livingston, Ruby Dee died peacefully at her home in New Rochelle, New York on Wednesday. She was 91.

Along with acting, Dee and her late husband Ossie Davis were major players in the civil rights movement; Dee was close friends with Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X.

Ruby Dee leaves a lifetime of amazing work and permanent mark in this industry. RIP Ruby Dee.
