Movie Review: “Neighbors”

After a hilarious press tour, “Neighbors” is finally in theaters. I had very high hopes for this film and that I would leave the theaters in tears from crying laughing so I caught a Thursday night viewing just to give you all A Glamberous Review before the weekend gets started.

The film stars Seth Rogen and Rose Bryne as Mac and Kelly Radner, a normal couple with a newborn baby girl, Stella, who just brought their ideal starter home. As new, and still fairly young, parents, the Radners are struggling with maintaining a fun social life and being “adults.” Things get really crazy for the couple when a fraternity, Delta Psi Beta, decides to rent the property next door for the semester

Insert here the sexy Zac Efron who plays the fraternity’s president Teddy, and his equally attractive band of misfits: frat VP Pete, Dave Franco, and frat brothers Scoonie and Garf, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Jerrod Carmichael.

The Frat and the Radners get along pretty well at first until a breach of trust is broken and a full on prank war sparks in hopes of getting one of the two to move.

Since the film is from the same folks behind “This is the End,” which I found absolutely hilarious, I thought “Neighbors” would measure up. Not that this film wasn’t funny but I think I laughed more during the promo tour than in the film. I think if you’re under the influence, on whatever, you might wet your pants from laughing, but if you’re not you can still get a chuckle or two from watching. “Neighbors” had a great pace and ever greater cast that will keep you tuned in the entire time.

There’s no major plot twists or shocking endings in the film. You pretty much can guess how the film will end but it’s a fun ride watching the frat and Radners go back and forth and try to one up each other. From the beginning to the end you will laugh, you will get a standard Seth Rogen character, lust for Zac Efron and fall in love with Rose Byrne if you haven’t already after Damages or “Bridesmaids.”

The supporting cast of Franco, Mintz-Plasse and Carmichael made the film come together as a whole and made me miss college even more than I already do. So if you’re in for a good laugh, want to look at hot guys and have a few bucks to spare, I suggest you go out this weekend and see “Neighbors.”
