This past Thursday was a day like no other but let me back track a bit.
I started working with MTV Special Events department back in August during the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards and have been asked to work with the department on a number of events since, but when I received the opportunity to work this event I felt this opportunity would be different and it was.
Everything was super secretive and when I showed up to work yesterday evening I understood why; I was going to work an after party/album release party for Beyoncé following her Barclay’s Center concert that night filled with family and friends at Dave and Buster’s in Times Square.
Unfortunately we were not allowed cell phones on our person during the party to respect Beyoncé’s privacy for herself and guests but what I experienced that night will not be forgotten.
With the help of all the hard workers, we transformed D & B into a party fit for a Queen where her guest would play games and win Beyoncé themed prizes including bunny ears, cups, adult toys, sweatshirts with words like “Surfboard,” “Watermelon,” “Flawless,” and “Breakfast” on the front.
Now let’s just talk about who was all there. I worked the door so I got to see everyone come in. J. Cole, Drake (with Zoe Kravitz), Jessica White, Anthony Mackie, Danielle Polanco and Lorraine Schwartz were just some of the famous faces I recognized also Bey’s dancers, band and stylist (i.e Ashley Everett and Ty Hunter).
I heard nothing by great things from my co-workers about Beyoncé being very sweet and gracious about her party. I only saw her once as she was leaving and she smiled before entering her car and heading home. The party lasted until a little after 4am and she stayed the entire time dancing with party guests upstairs. Drake also DJ’ed for a bit after DJ Cassidy spun.
But can we talk about how J. Cole was eyeing me as he left the party, shame he had a lady friend with him and I was working, next time J, next time. I also scored some great BeyHive merchandise like a “Angel” sweatshirt one of my fav songs, a Beyoncé bow, lite up head band, a cup and nail polish. The event was a great success and I’ll just say the Beyhive knows how to party.
