Open Letter: Joe Jonas Talks About Life As a Jonas Brother in ‘New York’ Magazine

Well this is a side of Joe Jonas I didn’t think I was interested in knowing but I am, I so am!

In New York magazine, Jonas opened up about growing up with music, working with the Disney channel, working with his brothers and many personal experiences in Hollywood like losing his virginity and relationships with singer Demi Lovato and “Twilight” actress Ashley Greene.

When talking about losing his virginity he said, “I did other stuff before then, but I was sexually active at 20. I’m glad I waited for the right person, because you look back and you go, ‘That girl was batsh*t crazy. I’m glad I didn’t go there.’”

Later he revealed using drugs and alcohol with some famous pals. “The first time I smoked weed was with Demi and Miley [Cyrus]. I must have been 17 or 18. They kept saying, ‘Try it! Try it!’ so I gave it a shot, and it was all right,” he said. “I was caught drinking when I was 16 or 17, and I thought the world was going to collapse.”

He also mentioned a scary time with alcohol during a birthday celebration, “My 21st birthday, I fell down a flight of stairs. I was unconscious that time, and my whole team was scared to death that somebody was going to get a picture. Now I appreciate wine or a vodka-soda at the end of the day every once in a while.”

Joe Jonas talked about The Jonas Brothers split and how her “freaked out” with the idea of the group breaking up. “I didn’t know whether to pick up and leave or just punch something, because I was furious. I’d spent so long working with my brothers on this band, and in my mind, it felt like we were just giving up. It didn’t make sense to me,” he recalled.

He added, “But once I started peeling back the layers, I understood. There were a lot of dysfunctional things going on… I didn’t care about the money; I just wanted to figure out the right, healthy way for us to be good as a family.”
