The greatest success stories don’t come from the people who have perfected their craft and stopped when they reach the finish line but to those who realize the finish line is only a perception of success and true winners are individuals who learn every step of the way. They see the finish line and beyond, one of those people are Kristal Lyndrietta SmithGlambergirlblog’s Music Muse and the First Lady of Voltron Recordz.

I had the privilege to interview Kristal with other bloggers and media outlets from all over the world, literally, during a media conference call with the artist and the man who signed her, Chairman & CEO of Voltron Recordz Tyrese Gibson. What initially started out as a telephone interview with Kristal quickly turned into what felt like a power call to me filled with antidotes about perseverance and the power of prayer.

Prayer is a big part of my life. I pray all the time. When I’m in the booth, I’m praying. When I’m writing a song, I’m praying. When I’m walking down the red carpet, I’m praying. I’m constantly praying that God just keeps me and moves me in the direction that I need to go,” Kristal said about overcoming obstacles in her life; and obstacles she indeed had.

Before Kristal embarked on her solo career and being the first artist Tyrese Gibson signed in over fifteen years of being in the industry; she was a member of Richcraft/RCA girl group RichGirl. After releasing two singles, “He Ain’t wit Me Now (Tho)” and “Swagger Right,” a mix tape, Fall in Love with RichGirl, and touring with Beyonce, Kristal seemed to have it all. Sadly, the band dismembered.

After losing her record deal, Kristal returned to her hometown of Gastonia, North Carolina to work in retail at a local mall. This could have been the breaking point for some but the young starlet kept working hard.

I kept a positive mind. I made sure I got employee of the month,” she said. Kristal used any avenue to the best whether it was “folding shirts” or working on her music. Then one lucky occurrence brought Tyrese in her life with a business opportunity.

Tyrese and Kristal have known each other for quite some time, since Kristal was sixteen to be exact, and have always had a platonic relationship. The two got to talking about Tyrese’s label, Voltron Recordz, and eventually Tyrese signed her.

Kristal’s first single “Silhouette” has been getting raved reviews for her sultry vocals and good R & B music vibes. The thing I like most about Kristal is that she is such a humble, grateful and beautiful spirit. Speaking with her during the conference call, listening to her answer everyone’s questions so graciously and hearing Tyrese boast about how excited he is to work with her can only make you excited as well.

Reading Kristal’s bio you can see she’s been through a lot but all of that is only testament that good can come when you have faith. That’s exactly what she had and continues to have as her solo careers sets to take off. I hope all my Glamberous Ones out there bear witness to the amazing artist that is Kristal.
