Hello Glamberous Ones and Welcome to GGBTV Presents: Philly’s Phinest!

We’re almost done! Only two more weeks of Philly’s Phinest to go. All month-long I will be bringing you exclusive sit downs with some of Philadelphia’s greatest talents in media, fashion, music and more! And at the end of the month I will be sharing my journey with Glambergirlblog.com

Fellow Delaware State University alum Koty Ducketts is definitely more than meets the eye. Koty was not a victim of his circumstances but used them to better himself and create his business OlSkoolCustomFrames, a luxury sunglasses brand that sells customized frames.

Koty’s love for sunglasses kicked off his business. Right now he sells them but is in the process of creating his very own line that he’s personally designing. If you check out his Instagram pages (@olskoolcustom_frames and @kducketts) you can see first hand Koty’s work in progress and all the community service work he’s apart of. Although things are great for Koty now, a major person from his childhood being murdered almost stopped him from going down the right path.

Miles Mack was community leader and great role model to many who was sadly gunned down on September 11, 2008 at a local playground. What’s even more tragic is that Mack died protecting some of the youth he mentored in Philadelphia. Mack was a huge part of Koty Ducketts life and he kindly spoke to me about losing someone so special.

“Um, I’m not going to talk about the whole situation but um I was here, I was here when he was murdered and I mean it hurt me deeply, it hurt the community deeply um, he was like an influential person to everybody not just to guys like myself but everybody in the neighborhood,” he said.

Koty also explained how Miles Mack shaped the man he is today saying, “Yes like I mean he was always like a helping person…as far as like his character, like he always use to tell me…you have a bright future…you don’t have to be hanging around…not saying that the people I was around was bad or anything like that but…he seen something in me and he use to tell me go ‘head and get your education like any good older guy would.”

Koty Ducketts is one of Philly’s Phinest because he used a devastating situation in his life to become a positive role model for others and successful businessman.

Watch Koty Ducketts discuss how the death of his childhood coach Miles Mack changed him for the better below.
