Hello Glamberous Ones and Welcome to GGBTV Presents: Philly’s Phinest!
All month-long I will be bringing you exclusive sit downs with some of Philadelphia’s greatest talents in media, fashion, music and more! And at the end of the month I will be sharing my journey with Glambergirlblog.com
On a blazing summer evening at the Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia, I met with the Owner and Editor of Concretecakes.com – Garron Gibbs. The Howard University alumnus started his company in 2011 with a simple idea in mind.
“I really wanted to highlight entrepreneurship. I wanted to highlight arts as an expression as a form of entrepreneurship because I wasn’t satisfied with the typical 9 to 5 life and I knew so many people who were starting to do businesses and some were more advanced than others and I felt as though I needed to promote something or to do something to kind of close that gap between those who are aspiring to do and those who are already doing it,” he said.
Garron then went on to explain the story behind the name of his site. “Concretecakes.com, it’s a weird name on purpose. Since we’re promoting the idea that you can do what you love and get paid for it, kind of like having your cake and eating it too, and when you actually break down the word concrete it means literal, or real, tangible and cakes is just another word for rewards. So when you put them together it actually means real rewards.”
Throughout the rest of our discussion, Garron expressed the importance of learning from successful people and reaching out to them for guidance.
Garron Gibbs is one of Philly’s Phinest because he inspires a movement to a generation to break out of the “9 to 5” lifestyle and create the lives they always dreamed of while earning an income.
