Question of the Day: Was Gabrielle Union The Original Olivia Pope?

Gabrielle Union, who has made her name known in Hollywood by playing East Compton Clover Isis in “Bring It On” could have made her name even larger if she took on a role in ABC’s hit show Scandal. 

The “Being Mary Jane” actress told the Associated Press that she was “this close” to landing the role as Olivia Pope, a role that made Kerry Washington a household name.

”I said to myself, ‘Oh my God, these roles are out there.’ It showed me that you don’t have to settle.”

She continued, “Luckily, the success of her and the show bred more work. Just from the audition process, I knew that I couldn’t go backward.”

Gabrielle Union has landed a spot in BET’s “Being Mary Jane” movie that will turn into a television series next Winter. See a trailer of the film below.
