Numbers Never Lie – Kanye West’s ‘Yeezus’ Tops First Week Sales

Nielen SoundScan has released the official numbers of last week record sells and so far it has been the biggest week in Hip-Hop of 2013.

According to Billboard “it’s the biggest week for a rap album since Drake’s Take Care arrived with 631,000 at number 1 in November of 2011.” Now that the smoke has cleared, Kanye West is victories debuting Yeezus at number 1 and selling 327,000 copies of his seventh album.

At number 2 and selling 296,642 units is Roc Nation’s J.Cole with his release to Born SinnerMac Miller’s Indie album Watching Movies with Sound Off came in third with 102,000 units and Kelly Rowland landed 10th with her fourth album Talk A Good Game selling 68,000 units first week.

Overall a good week for Hip-Hop, Kanye topped the chart even after the mix reviews of his album, Cole’s sophomore album made Nas proud after it being released the same day as Ye’ and Mac Miller’s risky attempt at an independent album succeeding. The summer has just begun and with albums from Jay-Z, Wale, Rick Ross, and 2 Chainz releasing this summer it looks to be promising.
