This is such a sweet and heart-warming tribute to a musical legend. It’s been a year since Adam Yauch aka MCA of the Beastie Boys passed away from a battle with salivary gland cancer, but he definitely has not been forgotten. Yesterday, it was announced in a ceremony that Palmetto Playground in Brooklyn had been renamed Adam Yauch Park. His parents, Noel and Frances Yauch, as well as fellow band member Adam Horovitz were in attendance.

The park is a block away from Adam’s childhood home and had been a place of enjoyment for the musician growing up. His mother even spoke about how he learned to ride his bike there. Brooklyn Borough president Marty Markowitz spoke of the dedication highly, calling Yauch one of Brooklyn’s “most culturally influential sons” and credits the group for being an inspiration to breaking boundaries in music.

Adam was also remembered for being a socially aware and kind person. He was greatly involved in the Tibetian independence movement and even met his wife through this interest. This, as well as his support of feminism and equal rights, had given tons of influence for the group’s music. He was truly an amazing person and will never be forgotten.
