And another award show down for 2013! The MTV Movie Awards premiered live on April 14, 2013 in Los Angeles. Television, movie, and music stars alike gathered together to celebrate all things Big Screen. Hosted by Rebel Wilson, there were plenty of laughs (presenters and winners alike), as well as great musical performances and close to tear-jerking moments.
Following a strangely funny “Catfish” themed pre-show skit starring MTV Correspondent Josh Horowitz, Anna Kendrick, Joe Manganiello, and Mark Wahlberg, Rebel owned the stage with her opening monologue and singing performance. For her first time hosting, she did a pretty good job!
First to receive an award was Bradley Cooper for Best Male Performance in “Silver Linings Playbook” and also snagged Best Kiss with co-star Jennifer Lawrence. Miss Wilson took home Breakthrough Star for her role in “Pitch Perfect” as well as Best Musical Moment. Go Rebel! The ultimate award of Movie of the Year was taken home by Marvel’s, “The Avengers”.
Aside from the conventional categories, like Best Fight and Best Villan, there had also been categories for Best WTF Moment and Best Shirtless Performance. Other categories included the Trailblazer Award, where Eddie Redmayne and Logan Lerman gave a heartfelt introduction to winner Emma Watson, and the Generation Award won by Jaime Foxx, who gave an inspiring mini speech about following your dreams. Aww.
On the comedy end, we were graced by some hilarious Will Ferrell insanity when he received the Comedic Genius Award. Rebel also enlightened us on what it would have been like if she were to star in big movies of the year (“Les Miserables”, “Life of Pi”, and “Magic Mike”). Musical performances by Macklemore and Selena Gomez both wowed in their own respects and we even got a preview of the new Hunger Games movie, “Catching Fire”.
It was a huge night for the stars and MTV! All in all, it was a success and I had a blast watching it. Congrats to all the winners of the 2013 MTV Movie Awards! For a complete list of winners, check below!
