Okay, so I get it. Justin Beiber is young and he’s in the spotlight. He makes mistakes and might say the wrong thing sometimes. Totally understandable. But this most recent comment definitely deserves a HUH?! (or WTF!, Say What?!..your choice). Over the weekend, the singer visited the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam during the European leg of his and left a message in the guest book after a tour of the vicinity. The message Beibs left read, “Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a Belieber.”
Um, WHAT? Beibs, why. After the museum posted his message on their Facebook page, the 19-year-old received backlash from audiences about how he is “too self-centered” and needs to understand her legacy as a historical figure. Even some fellow young Hollywood goers had something to say about it. Emmy Rossum, tweeted about it and her “loss of words” at the comment.
Though people were taken aback by the comment, people did come to his defense over the comment. Representatives of the museum said his trip was positive and praised him for taking time off to come visit the museum. Young starlet Chloe Grace Moretz commented that “you have to bring light to those situations” and that a lot of people are fans of his, so she might have been one as well. Justin himself has yet to comment on the situation.
While it might have been an innocent and light-hearted comment, I still think the Beibs needs to take a step back and think about what he says before he says it. He’s had some slip ups in the past (don’t get me started on ‘swaggie’) and if he wants to be taken more seriously, he’ll need to make some changes. I am glad he’s taking time to indulge in European culture and learn a bit while he’s there. What did you all think about the comment? Too far or not bad? Let me know in the comments below!
