February is the special month in which we honor and celebrate African-Americans, past and present, for all their accomplishments in a variety of fields: music, television, film, fashion, business and so much more. Here at Glambergirlblog we want to do things a little bit different. Everyday throughout this month we will spotlight some of the glamberous African-Americans in the entertainment industry.
Sean Combs, Puff Daddy, Puffy Combs, Diddy, Papa Diddy Pop; no matter what you call him just know he has dominated the music and fashion industry with a work ethic that has yet to be matched!
The Harlem, New York native gained his nickname “puffy by constantly sticking his chest out as a child to seem bigger definitely served as an omen for his future success. Sean studied Business Administration at Howard University but soon dropped out to pursue an internship at Uptown Records. After reaching his peak at Uptown in 1993; Sean left the company to start his own, Bad Boy Entertainment. Having an eye for talent, Sean worked with great R & B and Rap artist such as Mariah Carey, New Edition, Method Man, Babyface, 112, TLC, Boyz II Men, Li’l Kim, SWV, Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, and Notorious B.I.G.
Outside of creating a successful men’s clothing line (Sean John) in 1998, Sean was quite the successful musical artist. In 1997, Sean released the tribute to the late Notorious B.I.G. The single “I’ll be Missing You” topped the Billboard singles chart for six weeks. After that Sean launched many albums and collaborations with great artists. His MTV show Making The Band brought Sean back into the spotlight in a major and comical way (CC: Chappelle Show – Making The Band Parody). Currently Sean is slated to be dating his artist Cassie and soaking up his awesomeness!
Fun Fact About Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs: In 2004, Sean Combs’s clothing label Sean John was awarded the CFDA, Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc., Men’s Designer of the Year award.
