Trailer Thursday: Oz The Great and Powerful

If you follow GGB you know I have a thing for the Franco brothers (James and Dave) but James especially. I think he’s so insanely funny and I really dig it. So in honor of my undying love for him I want to feature “Oz The Great and Powerful” for this week’s Trailer Thursday. 

On trend right in the film genre is taking a once classic fairy tale or fantasy film and turning it up a notch by adding an extreme spin. “Oz The Great and Powerful” plays on the idea of the story behind the man that makes the place Oz so wonderful.

James Franco plays Oz and lands in the mystical world after a tornado sweeps him up. He encounters Theodora (Mila Kunis) a good witch, who is the first one to believe he is the man sent to overcome the wicked witch and restore Oz back to its original beauty. With no actual magical powers, Oz uses his wits and I’m assuming striking good looks to save the day. Visually the film looks gorgeous and I feel whoever was in charge of casting this movie did is perfectly. Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams are perfect witches.

I feel this character is definitely different for Franco. We often see him in a raunchy comedy or serious drama so seeing him in a movie for children, a Disney movie, may be a little bizarre to me. But don’t take my word for it. Check out the trailer below and let me know what you think. “Oz the Great and Powerful” will be in theaters March 8, 2013.
