February is the special month in which we honor and celebrate African-Americans, past and present, for all their accomplishments in a variety of fields: music, television, film, fashion, business and so much more. Here at Glambergirlblog we want to do things a little bit different. Everyday throughout this month we will spotlight some of the glamberous African-Americans in the entertainment industry.

Denzel Washington, in no way related to Kerry Washington, is one of the first names that come to mind when talking about great actors who have had an extensive and positive career in the industry.

Born in Mount Vernon, New York, on December 28, Washington originally had a plan to be in a different form of entertainment. He studied journalism at Fordham University but soon discovered his passion for acting. The Oscar award-winning actor got his first big break in 1981 with a comedy film he was featured in, “A Carbon Copy.”

After that, Washington’s career picked up very rapidly. The 1990s was the decade of Denzel Washington; he starred in many reputable films such as “Mo’ Better Blues,” “Malcolm X,” “Philadelphia,” “Crimson Tide,” “Courage Under Fire,” and “The Hurricane.” Within the past decade, Denzel has proven he is an acting force to reckoned with and shows no signs of slowing down. His latest film “Flight” has landed him many nominations this award season and shows he’s well respected by his peers and the industry.

Fun Fact About Denzel Washington: As a child, Denzel’s father wouldn’t let him go to the movies.
