February is the special month in which we honor and celebrate African-Americans, past and present, for all their accomplishments in a variety of fields: music, television, film, fashion, business and so much more. Here at Glambergirlblog we want to do things a little bit different. Everyday throughout this month we will spotlight some of the glamberous African-Americans in the entertainment industry. Kerry Washington is today’s spotlight for her award-winning acting talents and achievements in public service.

Born on January 31 in the Bronx, NY, Kerry Washington has always had the acting bug. Working her way up from after school specials to award-winning films, Washington is definitely a gem in the Hollywood realm. She spends just as much time making films as she does helping the community. She has a soft spot for the arts and participates in many foundations that specialize in protecting them.

Miss Washington has been in the acting game for a while tracing way back to 1994 when she played Heather in an after school special for ABC. But I first came to know her face from one of my fav films of all time, “Save The Last Dance.” Washington played Chenille, the sister of the guy Julia Stiles’ character was dating. I also remember her from a small film “Lift,” where she played a professional shoplifter. It wasn’t until recently that Kerry became a household name. Her hit ABC show Scandal is always on my Twitter timeline about rave reviews about how great the show is. Recently, Washington received great praise at the NAACP Image awards where she won outstanding actress in a drama series for Scandalsupporting actress in a motion picture for “Django Unchained” and the President’s Award, which is given in recognition of special achievement and exceptional public service.

Fun Fact about Kerry Washington: She was accepted into Yale University and Dartmouth College and declined both schools. She ended up studying acting at Michael Howard Studios in New York City.
