Glamberous Ones we are four days away from bringing in a new year! I can’t even believe how fast this year has gone by!
With each new year brings the hope to a start fresh, cutting off any dead weight holding you back from greatness and a chance to reflect on the year that is passing. In the pop culture world media outlets indulge in looking back at all the stories that made headlines. Glambergirlblog is shamefully following that trend and making a top 25 list of the stories in pop culture that made it to a trending topic on Twitter, made friends enemies in heavy debates, made you literally go “OMG” and all of the above. Without any further adieu; let’s kick off Part I of this list with numbers 25-20.
25. Amanda Bynes Has A Meltdown One of Nickelodeon’s golden children Amanda Bynes was making major headlines in 2012 and raising many concerns with her semi early midlife crisis. Back in September Bynes was cited for drinking under the influence and set to stand trail for it. TMZ also reported some strange behavior that neighbors saw Bynes doing. The paparazzi site said neighbors saw Bynes talking to inanimate objects and others claim they saw the actress laughing hysterically to herself in the gym leading to mental health rumors. It was official Miss Bynes was having a meltdown.
24. Anderson Copper Comes Out As A Gay Man CNN reporter Anderson Cooper revealed what some may have already suspected. In July, Cooper sent a long, personal statement to blogger Andrew Sullivan confirming that he was indeed a gay man. In the statement he said, “The fact is, I’m gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud.” Cooper’s choice to reveal his sexuality was to clear up any misconception that he was in any way ashamed of his sexuality.
23. Election 2012 – Obama vs. Romney Just like the past couple of political campaigns; you can leave it to pop culture to make light of the heavy situation of politics and give everyone an informed laugh. The biggest culprit of this has to be Saturday Night Live. SNL gathered some of their best comedies to give the most hilarious impersonations of the 2012 political candidates. And let’s not forget comedian Chris Rock’s public service announcement on undecided voters.
22. The Fab 5 Olympic Gymnastics Team The young ladies of the US Olympic Gymnastics team not only scored big during the Olympic games but two of the ladies made major impressions in the pop culture world. McKayla Maroney’s forever unimpressed face made it all the way to the White House with President Obama while Gabrielle Douglas made the cover of Essence magazine, performed with Alicia Keys and was created big buzz as the youngest gold gymnastic medalist.
21. Brad Pitt’s Chanel No. 5 Ad Brad Pitt was named the first male to promote the women’s fragrance Chanel No. 5 and it was a huge deal! People were anxiously waiting for the commercial ads Pitt would do to promote the elegant fragrance but were left utterly confused by the outcome. The commercials made Brad look confused and disoriented but it sure did make for good comedy when Saturday Night Live decided to spoof it.
20. The Year of Channing Tatum What could be bigger than being named PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive, having a summer blockbuster film that STILL is killing women (“Magic Mike”) and expecting to be a D.I.L.F (Dad I’d Like to…) in the new year?! Well Channing Tatum claimed all those things making 2012 the year of Channing Tatum. And if you are at all sad that Mr. Tatum is taking off acting for 2013; get your life to this “Magic Mike” (WARNING: Expletive content) inspired Tumblr.
