GGB’s Favorite Halloween Moments in Films

Halloween doesn’t have to be all ghouls, goblins, freaks and geeks. It can be a time where you dress up like a total slut and get away with it, met a friendly ghost that makes you appreciate your life here on Earth, bond as you take down a group of witches, search for a great pumpkin or fight to save you life from a menacing psychopath. Here are some of my favorite Halloween moments in films.

“Mean Girls” If you have not seen “Mean Girls” immediately go out and buy the DVD. If you never heard of “Mean Girls” shame on you. It’s only the best work that ever came from actress/comedian Tina Fey. The film about backstabbing, cliques and overall high school through girl world introduced the world, as if they didn’t already know, about the “slut rule” when it comes to Halloween. In girl world you can dress up in lingerie, slap on some ears, whiskers, a tail or a little face paint and there you have a costume.

“Casper” Who knew ghosts knew how to throw one hell of a Halloween party?! In the 1995 film, Kat and her dad, Dr. James Harvey, move into a spooky old mansion that houses Casper, the friendly ghost, and his not so friendly, in-your-face uncles – Stinkie, Stretch and Fatso. Throughout the film Kat deals with the lost of her mom, trying to relate to her dad and finds a friend in her sweet house mate Casper. Ultimately, the film ends with a kick ass Halloween party that scares the socks off its guests, FUN!

“Hocus Pocus” By far, one of my favorite Halloween flicks has to be “Hocus Pocus.” Thanks to Max for being a virgin and lighting the black flame candle on Halloween we got such an awesome flick. I remember watching it repeatedly with my sisters as a child and even singing “Come Little Children” on a broom propped up on the edge of my couch, not even a little ashamed to admit that. And who could forget “I Put A Spell On You?” I still know all the words. They were evil but the Sanderson sisters were all of that. *finger snaps* Too bad Max, Danny and Allison had to vanquish them.

“It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” Charlie Brown flicks are those type of films that can never get old. “It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” is decades old but it still reminds us how to be kids again and believe in the simplest things like Linus waiting on “the great pumpkin.” This film has a fun themed party, trick-or-treating, costumes, pumpkins, and candy. All the things that makes Halloween so great.

“Halloween” I can’t be the only one who still has trouble sleeping after seeing the original “Halloween” films. Whenever Michael Myers came on that screen and that infamous music started to play you knew it was about to go down! Given that this popular movie has the same title as the holiday there always is a marathon on when October 31 runs around. If I learned anything from this film franchise it’s that vampires clearly aren’t the only immortal creatures roaming the earth.
