I love television! I always have. My parents are fond of telling me stories of how as a child I always stayed in front of the television set, like front row and center glued to the moving pictures on the box. I also remember way into my teen years having my set shows I would watch and dropping whatever I was doing to see my favorites. One of the best parts about some television shows are the theme songs. It’s crazy how no matter how many years have passed I could still remember every beat, line, ad lib and sometimes dances that went along with popular, and maybe not so popular depending on who’s watching, television programs.

I wanted to share some of my favorite television theme songs that I still think are pretty great til this day.

  • 90’S Nick– There were too many awesome Nick theme songs in the 90’s that I had to group them all.  “All That”, The original sketch comedy show with a great theme by TLC, “Kenan and Kel” theme always got it started with “aww here it goes”, “Cousin Skeeter” and Meagan Good appearing in the elevator, ahh brings me back.
  • They Know Drama — These theme’s add such great suspense to the tone of the show but they are also the reason I tune it five minutes before the show starts. “Law and Order”, we all know that tune and the infamous “DUN, DUN”. CSI: Miami is the best and I get so amped when Horatio does his great punned intros along with that “yeaaaahhhhh”
  • Urban Shows — I hate to call them urban shows but they were geared towards the African-American community and they had great themes. “Mo to the E to the, Moesha”. “Moesha” had many variations of this theme as the show went on but I think the orignal was the best. Brandy in them braids, ha. “A Different World” updated theme song was my jam! I love that version with Boyz II Men; I like party hard to it. Lastly, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”. EVERYBODY knows that word for word, STILL. It’s that much of a classic. I get actually excited because I was actually born and raised in West Philadelphia 🙂

What are some of your favorites?
