Showtime shocked social media when it announced that it was bringing back its popular crime drama series Dexter. (SPOLIERS AHEAD)

Dexter premiered October 1, 2006 and ran for 8 seasons wrapping up in 2013. The show followed Dexter Morgan, played by Michael C. Hall, as a blood splatter analyst for the Miami Dade police department who had a dark side as a serial killer in his pastime. Dexter’s catch was that he only killed murderers who have cheated the justice system.

Hall won a Golden Globe for his performance as Dexter Morgan, but many will say Jennifer Carpenter was one of the stand out characters from the series as outspoken Miami cop Debra Morgan aka Dexter’s sister. Fans of the show, myself included, were not pleased with the lackluster series finale in 2013. There were many causalities along the way but Deb dying left me sobbing, Hannah McKay running off with Harrison left me mad, and Dexter turning up as a lumberjack who faked his own death left me puzzled. Now is the time to erase that conclusion thanks to Showtime.

The show is getting a 10-episode limited-series revival with Michael C. Hall reprising his role and Executive Producer Clyde Phillips back as well. Production is set to begin early 2021 and will have a provisional release date in fall 2021. No details about where the story will pick off from were given, but at least fans of the show will get some sort of better outcome than they got in 2013. Hopefully.
