Lady Gaga covers the September 4 issue of Entertainment Weekly and discusses her leading role in American Horror Story: Hotel set to premiere in less than two months.

Ryan Murphy, series co-creator, recounts the phone call he got from Gaga about wanting to be on the show. “I was at a construction site and my phone rang. I didn’t recognize the number. [I answer and] I hear ‘Please hold for Gaga.’ I think ‘Bad Romance’ was playing [while I was on hold],” Murphy tells EW with a laugh. “Then she got on the phone. At first I thought it was a prank, but we then had a lovely call.”

Gaga chimes in on that conversation revealing, “I called him and I said, ‘Ryan, I wanna be on Horror Story.’ And he goes, ‘Okay.’ And that was it.”

Lady Gaga will be playing The Countess, owner of the Hotel Cortez, who is said to be “a glamorous but deadly creature who sustains on a healthy diet of sex and blood — she kills with her very fashionable but very sharp chainmail glove.” Gaga adds, “She’s extremely strong. She’s been through so much. It’s kind of impossible for anything to penetrate her.”

American Horror Story: Hotel premieres Wednesday, October 7 on FX.
