Laverne Cox is baring it all for the annual Allure magazine naked issue, where celebs are asked to tastefully pose nude, and makeup free, for the mag.
The Orange Is The New Black actress marks the first transgender woman to be featured in the nude spread but it wasn’t an easy decision for Cox to make to be apart of the issue.
“Going through life, you try to cover and hide, but it doesn’t really work. I said no initially, thought about it, and said no again. But I’m a black transgender woman. I felt this could be really powerful for the communities that I represent,” Cox said in her feature in the mag.
She went on to explain, “Black women are not often told that we’re beautiful unless we align with certain standards. Trans women certainly are not told we’re beautiful. Seeing a black transgender woman embracing and loving everything about herself might be inspiring to some other folks. There’s beauty in the things we think are imperfect. That sounds very cliché, but it’s true.”
On Instagram, Laverne Cox further shared her feelings about being in the annual nude issue of Allure posting a photo from the spread with caption, “Thanks to everyone at @allure magazine for making me feel so comfortable taking off my clothes for the camera for your May issue.” [SEE BELOW]
