‘Saturday Night Live’ Casts New Black Female Lead – Meet Sasheer Zamata

NBC and iconic sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live had recently come under fire for the lack of diversity on the show; mainly not having any black lead comedians on the series but those days are over.

Meet Sasheer Zamata, the newest cast member of SNL and the second African American lead since Maya Rudolph left the show in 2007.

A rep for NBC confirmed that Zamata has been added to the show following a casting call where a bunch of women auditioned last month. She will make her debut when SNL returns from its winter hiatus on January 18 with host and musical guest Drake.
