Get the tissues ready Glamberous Ones because “The Best Man Holiday” is one emotional roller coaster filled with laughs and heart ache that will bring you to tears either way.

Taye Diggs, Nia Long, Morris Chestnut, Harold Perrineau,Terrence Howard, Sanaa LathanMonica Calhoun, Melissa De Sousa and Regina Hall all are back reprising their roles in the sequel to the film “The Best Man” that changed the film industry back in 1999. This time around Eddie Cibrian was added to perfect cast and served a very important part to the story.

I was lucky enough to see the film three days before it hit theaters thanks to “The Best Man Holiday” Girls Night Out. My mother and two of my sisters joined me to catch an early screening of the movie. The crowd was filled with a mix of men and women, young and old, anticipating the sequel to the film that took place nearly 15 years ago. I’ll do my best to stay spoiler free so you can enjoy the film yourself.

The thing I really liked about the film was the opening credits. It was very much like the first “Sex and the City” movie; you know how each character had a recap of who they are and let the audience know where they are now. It really got the audience excited for what was about to come. Watching the film I noticed three key themes: faith, forgiveness and friendship.

Morris Chestnut’s character Lance is a key element of what it means to have faith. His faith is something that is so strong and unwavering that you can’t help but to feel that propel out of the screen. Lance was dealing with some intense issues in the movie that kept him so angry and bottled up. The moment he forgave and let go of that anger, that hurt and that pride, he was able to receive the friendship and help he really needed.

All the characters but especially Harper, Taye Diggs, and Jordan, Nia Long, dealt with issues of needing something and being able to let down their guards and ask for it. That was another very emotional element in the film that just had me bawling my eyes out, but everything wasn’t so serious and that what Quentin, Terrence Howard, and Shelby, Melissa De Sousa, served to the audience, comic relief. Que was good for the one liners and Shelby was there to say the things we were all thinking. Your emotions will go up, down and sideways in this movie and have you totally attentive the entire time. The way the ending of the film was set up definitely warrants for a possible third spin-off, but will be get it?

The entire cast did such a phenomenal job and I can’t say enough good things about it! Malcolm D. Lee did an outstanding job writing and directing this film along with making us fall in love with this cast all over again. I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed this film. There’s much anticipation to provide a good sequel to a film, especially a beloved film like “The Best Man” and the “The Best Man Holiday” was an exceptional depiction of black cinema.

In the era of Tyler Perry movies, there are no other films that depict black people or the black community in any way. I respect Lee for taking it back to the time when his cousin Spike Lee was making films that have something to say. A film that you could enjoy but also take away so much that could reflect in your own life.
