OK so you all know I’ve been blogging the praises of FX’s American Horror Story, AHSever since I got hooked from watching season 1 on Netflik and becoming a hardcore fan after watching season 2 when it premiered, but now season 3 is here and I’m breaking it down for you.

What You Need To Know First thing you should know before partaking in AHS is that you don’t need to “catch up” on previous seasons before getting into the next. Each season may use the same actors and actresses, which I love, but each has its own plot lines to decipher and characters to fall in love with, or hate.

This season’s plot line is witches, witchcraft and voodoo. American Horror Story: Coven tells the story of Zoe Benson (Taissa Farmiga) who discovers she’s a witch and is sent to Miss Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies in New Orleans. The school is run by headmistress Cordelia Foxx (Sarah Paulson) and is a safe haven for young witches that are the last lines of the unique bloodline. Actress Madison Montgomery (Emma Roberts) and youth outcasts Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe) and Nan (Jamie Brewer) also live in the home.

Jessica Lange plays Supreme witch Fiona Goode; along with Lily Rabe as Misty Day, Frances Conroy as Myrtle Snow,  Evan Peters as Frat Boy Kyle, Kathy Bates as Madame Delphine LaLaurie and Angela Bassett as Marie Laveau.

What You Missed
In the premiere episode we meet Madame Delphine LaLaurie, a slave owner from the 1800’s, who has three daughters, one of which slept with a black man, the help and who “belongs to someone else” hint, hint. Upon Madame Delphine finding out what her daughter has done, she adds the man to her collection of slaves in the attic and makes him a minotaur – look it up.

We then meet Zoe who is sent away to Miss Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies after she accidentally kills her boyfriend during sex and made him have a brain aneurysm. Upon getting to the school she meets the three other witchy students: Madison, Queenie and Nan and get the low down on the school from Mistress Foxx. All of them are there to learn and control their gifts.

I don’t want to give the episode away because then you won’t watch it but I will give you some tidbits. Madison has the power to move things, Queenie is the human voodoo doll, Nan is a clairvoyant and I’m not sure what Zoe’s power actually is but she can NOT have sex without deadly consequences. Fiona is Cordelia’s mom and Fiona has some issues wth her being a “regular witch” and not tapping into her true potential. Evan Peter’s character Kyle dies *sigh* but is supposed to be brought back to life through a spell. Marie Laveau curses Madame Delphine and she is dug up later in the episode.

Why You Should Watch
Now that you know the deal about AHS: Coven let me convince you why you should go to on demand right now and watch the first episode and be glued to your TV set each week. This season is going to be amazing because my girl Taissa Farmiga is back. She was in the first season of AHS and is supposed to have a pretty great plot line according to creator and writer Ryan Murphy. Jessica Lange is an award-winning actress and does amazing in the series. This season is about witches and who doesn’t love witches, there are references to “Harry Potter” and each episode will leave you yearning for next week.

New episodes of American Horror Story: Coven air on FX Wednesdays at 10pm with the season premiere available now on demand.
