Wednesday, February 20, TMZ announced A Different World actor Lou Myers died at the age of 77. Lou was most famous for playing the wise cracking “The Pit” owner Mr. Vernon Gaines on the late ’80’s/early ’90’s sitcom.

TMZ received word on Lou’s death from the president of Lou’s non-profit. The president said the actor passed away last night in West Virginia at Charleston Medical Center. Lou was admitted into the medical center due to heart-related problems. His heart stopped yesterday and doctor’s were able to revive him; but he fell into a coma and passed away hours later. He is survived by his son and his 95-year-old mother.

A Different World was one of my major influences to go to a Historically Black College or University, HBCU, so I’m really sad that Mr. Gaines died. I really loved his character on that show. R.I.P Lou!
