Rick James said it best, “Cocaine is one hell of a drug.” No words could have been better spoken or related to this week’s episode of HBO’s Girls.
As the show opens we see Hannah on an interview at Jazzhate. She got the chance to have a freelance article published for $200; only catch is she has to do something so out of her comfort zone so her editor suggests she does cocaine and write about it.
Hannah goes to the girls, Jessa, Marnie and Shoshanna, who are sitting stoop side at a stoop sale, so New York, and gets suggestions on where to buy coke from. Marnie suggests the weird junkie neighbor Laird from the floor below. Hannah and Laird have an interesting convo in his apartment about why Marnie moved out, Hannah’s WiFi names and his love for pomegranate juice. Laird thinks Hannah is making the first move with him but all she wants is drugs. Laird reveals to Hannah that’s he’s not drugs anymore but will get Hannah whatever she needs because he always wanted to do something for her.
Meanwhile we catch up with Marnie at work where she has to deal with pervy old guests and Booth Jonathan; mind you I may be a little strange for really loving saying the name Booth Jonathan but anywho BJ, wait I just realized how sexual his initials are, let’s call him Booth J, comes down on Marnie for working as a hostess and giving up on what she really wants when things get rough. He proceeds to ask Marnie when was the last time she had sex and tells her she’s about to sleep with him; which she ends up doing. Back at Booth J’s place, he shows Marnie one of his interactive art pieces, she loves it, they have strange sex and Marnie laughs it off.
Now at this point Hannah is ready to have a coke filled night but doesn’t want to go at it alone; insert Elijah. The two put on ridiculous outfits, do some coke and head out. While on their high the confessions start to flow and Elijah admits to Hannah that he banged Marnie; naturally Hannah gets upset but not in a way I thought she would. Elijah and Hannah leave the club and go to a drug store to buy socks when they notice Laird has been following them. Hannah gets a text from Marnie about being with Booth J so H, E and L head to Booth J’s. Hannah confronts Marnie about sleeping with Elijah and gets her to admit she’s a bad friend. In the background you can see Laird and Booth J having an intense convo and Hannah tells Elijah he’s moving out.
The episode ends with Hannah and Laird making a quick exit out of Booth J’s apartment, leaving me to wonder did Laird kill Booth J? He wanted to get out of there with the quickness! Hannah and Laird make out very uncomfortably outside of his apartment which seems like Laird’s dream come true.
New episodes of Girls can be seen on HBO Sunday nights at 9pm with episodes available on HBO GO as soon after the new episodes air.
