TV Time: ‘Girls’ Season 2, Episode 2

Episode 2 of HBO’s Girls started off with Elijah dealing with the aftermath of his “two and a half pump” or thrusts tryst with Marnie. He ended up telling his boyfriend George who immediately broke up with him and questioned if he told Hannah want went down while she’s comically exercising in the room next door.

After the infamous Girls title screen rolls we find Adam mournfully singing maybe the best lyrics ever in one song off the album of original heartbreak hits he compiled, videotaped and sent to Hannah. Elijah and Hannah are utterly baffled in viewing them. In other news Marnie is having trouble finding a job while Shoshanna and Ray are really hitting it off having pig bathing pillow talk. Marnie seems defeated about not finding work until Shosh and Ray suggest she get a “pretty person job” as a hostess.

Hannah goes to pay a visit to newlyweds Jessa and Thomas-John. Thomas-John surprises Jessa with a basket of puppies that she absurdly names Garbage, Fucker and Hanukkah, but that’s so Jessa though. The two head to the park and briefly discuss how happy Jessa is with her marriage and how Hannah tends to over think things.

Later in the episode Hannah and her boyfriend Sandy get into a fight about him not reading the essay she asked him to review. They then get into issues of race and political beliefs and break up. While Hannah is en route home, Elijah and Marnie are seen discussing their one “two and half pump” stand and bicker about telling Hannah – Oh how I can’t wait until she finds out!

In the last scenes of the episode Adam texts Hannah that he’s downstairs while she’s Youtubing how to cut her bangs. She quickly turns off the night only to receive a text from Adam that he saw her do that and then she hears breathing in her hall. Adam pops out and said he used her spare key to gain access to her apartment for an emergency: he needed milk. While Hannah gets his milk she called 911 for 2 seconds. Hannah and Adam kind of get into it because she just wants him to go away! As he’s leaving the police are walking up the steps and arrest Adam after they run his name. He apparently has unpaid parking tickets and a citation for public urination.

My new favorite thing about Girls is reading Josée Rose’s weekly write ups about the show on The Wall Street Journal online Speakeasy section. The conversation she had with her fiancé about last night’s episode is pretty similar to what a friend and my convo was like. Man, I love this show!
