For this week’s Trailer Thursday we’re going to take a look at a different type of film. We don’t usually talk too much, well at all, about the Western genre of film but “Django Unchained” has been getting major buzz lately and even the words “Oscar nominations” have been swirling around the film so I had to dig further and see what the fuss was about.
Set back in the time during slavery in the south, Jamie Foxx plays the lead character Django, a slave, whose freedom is brought by Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) with the intentions of turning him into a bounty hunter. Django uses this as a perfect opportunity to rescue his wife, Broomhilda von Shaft (Kerry Washington), who has been under the ownership of crude plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio). The plot is simple enough but when Schultz and Django – the “D” is silent – link up the heads will roll and the bullets will fly in a heart pounding trailer.
After seeing the action packed trailer the only question in my mind was: who isn’t in this movie?! I mean seriously many of Hollywood’s greatest actors and actresses are in the film and let’s not forget that Quentin Tarantino is the writer and director. And if you know Taratino’s work (“Kill Bill,” “Pulp Fiction,” “Inglorious Bastards”) you know the movie will be good. I’m not big on Western films but I am big on awesome so I may head to my local theater to see this instead on waiting for Video On Demand.
Take a look at the trailer below! “Django Unchained” is in theaters on Christmas Day, December 25, 2012.
