The BET Awards 2012: The Recap

Actor Samuel L. Jackson took the honor this year as the host of the 2012 BET Awards on Sunday, July 1 in Los Angeles, CA at the Shrine Auditorium. The top grossing actor, which was mentioned several times during the show, was expecting to be outspoken but I think Sam, Mr. Jackson if you nasty, was pretty calm and respectful. Now let’s talk about the show!

The Fashions Queen Bey has done it again! How is it possible to have a baby and not fall off your game even a little bit? Well I guess if anyone can do it then it would be Beyonce. PEOPLE’s most beautiful woman in the world wore a very leggy and bright neon, yellow Stephane Rolland gown that fit her like a glove! That color looks especially good on her with that hair color as well. Beyonce is my top choice of the night but runner ups include La La Anthony in a plum Lois London jumpsuit and Meagan Good in a white BCBG Max Azria.

The Performances The show opened up with the G.O.O.D. Music crew, Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz  doing a take of “Mercy” and later joined by Kanye West as he did his verse on “Cold.”  Right after Samuel L. Jackson and Spike Lee did a semi-funny take on “Ni**as in Paris.” Other performers of the night included Usher, Chris Brown, Melanie Fiona, D’Angelo, Nicki Minaj and many more. The show also included a very touching Whitney Houston tribute, which I think is the best I saw, that left the audience in tears. (CC: Soulja Boy) Monica, Brandy, Whitney’s brother, Gary and mother, Cissy all paid tribute to the late singer.

The Awards Many awards were given out during the program including ‘Video of The Year’, ‘Viewer’s Choice Award’, and ‘Best Actor’. The most comical acceptance of the night had to go to Kanye West and Jay-Z . As the twosome accepted ‘Video of the Year’ for “Otis,” Jay jokingly gave Ye as taste of his own medicine by interrupting his speech and saying, “Kanye Imma let you finish.” Ye laughed it off saying he was defended his girl but isn’t it funny how what goes around, comes around.
