2012 MTV Movie Awards: The Recap

On Sunday June 3, 2012 Russell Brand hosted the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. The night celebrating all things movies was expected to be filled with big and little surprises throughout the night and that it did!

Fun and Janelle Monae opened the show with a performance of “We Are Young”, following a typical monologue from Russell Brand. It was kind of awkward but nothing too hard to watch. The show rolled smoothly along with stars handing out awards and great performances. The jaw-dropping performance had to be ‘Generation Award’ winner Johnny Depp performing with The Black Keys.

A sneak peek for “The Dark Knight Rises” left Christian Bale getting choked up with a glimpse of Heath Ledger as he presented the clip along with other co-stars. The movie looks great and I’m sure it will be a box office hit!

To be honest everything else went a blur when “Twilight” won. My heart was beating so fast until the winners were called. THEY WON!!TWIHARDS UNITE!! Whoooo!! I admit I was a little worried but one can never underestimate the power of “Twilight” fans! Although the film was only nominated in two categories they swept both and for that I am ecstatic! Twi won for both ‘Best Kiss’ and the coveted ‘Movie of the Year’. Four years in a row for both categories, I’m just saying!
excited jumping Pictures, Images and Photos

Did you know that Chinese Film Fans watching the Awards thought that host Russell Brand was quite boring

      1. June 5, 2012 at 2:12 pm

He could have done better. He really didn’t say much.

      2. June 5, 2012 at 2:19 pm

I was sort of playing on the fact that Chinese people say Bland for Brand. Therefore, Russell was quite boring .. (I know, poor really)

Nice blog, Yay! Hunger Games for all the wins!

    2. June 5, 2012 at 9:45 am

      Agreed!

    3. June 5, 2012 at 12:10 pm

Aniston was the epitome of a horrible boss. She did a damn good job.

      1. June 5, 2012 at 12:42 pm

I’m hearing nothing but how great she was in that! I really want to see it now!

      2. June 5, 2012 at 1:32 pm

I’d recommend it. It’s pretty funny!

    2. June 4, 2012 at 4:17 pm

Johnny Deep does sound like a good adult film star’s name. Right?

  8. June 4, 2012 at 4:20 pm

Kristen Stewart’s best kiss solo make out session was pretty weird. I kept thinking the people she called out were going to come on stage and make out with her. Charlize Theron would have been my first choice, not the Huntsman. Nice recap!

    1. June 4, 2012 at 4:29 pm

I love Kristen but it was really awkward, ha. I was hoping for Charlize too!

Ok, I’m going to be the voice of dissention here but in a year that had movies like ‘Midnight in Paris’, ‘The Tree of Life’, and many more great films; it really makes me sad to see Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 1 get any recognition in a ‘Best of the Year’ list. Nice writeup but very disappointed in the film among the MTV crowd

    1. June 4, 2012 at 7:33 pm

Yeah, but the MTV Movie Awards is soley for pop culture favs I think. All the nominees are based off what’s happening at the moment amongst their demographic.

  11. June 4, 2012 at 6:03 pm

So mad I missed it!!! But THANK YOU for the recap, now I can fast forward to the Twilight parts :)

Thanks for the re-cap…I didn’t get to see it on TV! I wish Twilight didn’t win though :(

  19. June 4, 2012 at 9:23 pm

I didn’t vote for movie of the year for the sheer fact that 4 out of the 5 were some of my favorite movies. First let it be known that I have been obsessed with Twilight, The Hunger Games, and Harry Potter (who I do not think got nearly enough recognition last night,) I have been reading the books (multiple times) before the movies were even mentioned for any of them. BUT I do not think that Hunger Games should have been up for a Movie of the Year award anyway, because all the other movies came out in 2011, and it came out just a few months ago. I was pretty upset because for this year so far Hunger Games has my vote for best movie of 2012, and it deserves a ton of recognition. (Of course Twilight hasn’t came out yet…lol.) Anyway, that was just my thought as I was watching the awards last night. Am I wrong?

    1. June 4, 2012 at 10:01 pm

That’s true! THG should have been for 2012 but I think District fans would have been highly upset if they didn’t get nominated.

      1. June 4, 2012 at 10:30 pm

I agree. My husband and I both love the books and went and watched the movie twice. lol. We are big District fans. :)

Russell’s material was kind of bland, Charlie Sheen was classic, Emma Stone was amazing (especially at those scenes where she was with Andrew Garfield), and the Johnny Depp moment was awesome- especially the montage of his movie roles!

They’re the reasons I watched the show, the whole Twilight and Hunger Games taking most of the awards was predictable.

    http://sophistylecation.wordpress.com

    1. June 5, 2012 at 9:26 am

I agree. I was also mad the show didn’t start with any movie spoofs. I think they had good material to work with this year if they had done and I would love to see Brand act out some classic movie scenes with that accent.

      1. June 5, 2012 at 10:27 am

She is definitely no Rachel in this movie.

Ha, that’s funny! MTV asked him and he just said a heckler said something disrespectful. He didn’t give the deets on EXACTLY what but he said since he went to church that morning he refrained from smacking him. It MUST have been pretty rude!

ugh Twilight! I was pretty obsessed at first with the books, it was like reading crack. About a year later, I picked them up again and thought to myself, “What was I thinking?” I have many issues with the series but I’ll just say the writing style drove me crazy!

I think the Hunger Games deserved to win. It helps that the author Suzanne Collins adapted her own book to the screen and had written for tv before. But the movie was so good–from the screenplay, to the actors, to the acting… Just much better than Twilight in my opinion. :)

    1. June 5, 2012 at 12:44 pm

That’s the common issue with Twilight is the writing; I only read Breaking Dawn and I liked it. And I agree THG is pretty awesome

Hunger Games! awesome. Jennifer Lawrence is flawless. I just recently watched the lastest x-men movie and saw she was in it. “whoa, huba huba!” lol….breakin dawn pt1 was alright. To much of a chic flick for me but as long as Kristen Stewart is in it, I’m all eyes. That snowwhite huntsman movie is going to be awesome. Action, violence, plus kristen stewart equals snowwhite huntsman pt2 please :)

The presentation of “The Dark Knight Rises” was beautiful, I can’t wait to see the film!
Harry Potter had to win both BEST CAST and BEST FIGHT, but not BEST FILM (the books are more and more beautiful and magical that films). I didn’t want Twilight to win BEST MOVIE and BEST KISS, the books of the saga were charming, interesting, but the films are just meaningless and the actors (who in others films are pretty much good in acting) seem to have always the same expressions. According to BEST KISS, the winner love scene between the main characters (the’re kissing after they’re getting married) is cute but not so much to win BEST KISS!
Do you remember when the winners were R. Gosling and R. Mc Adams in “The Notebook”? THAT was a KISS!

    1. June 6, 2012 at 9:17 am

YES! I am such a supporter for all things Twilight but that “The Notebook” best kiss win will always be my fav! It was so good!
